Alchemy: Works on Paper features Latinx, Latin American, and Texas-based artists who work in a range of mediums including collage, drawing, painting, and printmaking. The exhibition demonstrates the power of the artist’s hand and the seemingly magical process of transformation that occurs in the creation of an artwork. The flexible quality of paper, and its two-dimensional constraints, is manipulated in this way to blur the realms of reality and fantasy.

In addition to having work included in this exhibition, Margaret Craig will take to the streets on March 18th, transforming herself into a creature of repurposed plastic in a performance reflecting the human impact on natural estuaries.

Lanterns, evolved from repurposed plastic and a creature animated by the artist, will move through the festival periodically, interacting with visitors.

PLASTIC, an exhibit of artworks that features plastic as subject matter or medium, opens this week in the galleries, joined by three other exhibitions together featuring 48 works by 32 artists from 16 states and Canada. Works will be on view in our @eastwalnuthills location through September 15, 2023.

Margaret Craig will move through the festival interacting with visitors as the Creature from the Bleached Lagoon.

Artists from the Resilient and Responsive exhibition – Linda Monsivais, Manuel Davila, and Margaret Craig – will speak about their work in the show, their use of repurposed or natural materials, and lead a hands-on demo of a technique used in their work.
